CURRENT WATER PROJECT ACTIVITIES IN KENYA
With five drill rigs in country, the drilling of water wells in Kenya is proceeding well. Although it was our original intent that most of the work will be performed either for the Kenyan government, or by contract to individuals and groups in Kenya ... the violence which followed the 2007 Kenyan presidential elections has had a serious effect on the Kenyan economy and few people there have the money available to pay for this work to be performed.
The need is great and their financial resources are extremely limited. We have been fortunate to have recently developed a working relationship with The Water Project (see link on the LINKS section of this website). Through them, donors have been found both for drilling equipment and for seriously needed wells. This has been a real blessing for it makes our efforts worthwhile.
In the year and a half that we had only two water well drilling rigs in operation, over 100 wells were drilled.
The geographic location of each well that is sponsored by a donor is determined using a handheld GPS unit so that the donor can google the site and if the satellite photography is up-to-date, one can even see the footpaths leading to the well.
