CLEAN WATER IS SCARCE IN KENYA

In third world countries, contaminated water is the major killer of young children. The lack of clean water is complicated by a serious drought that is affecting much of East Africa. Water is so scarce that some people prefer not to boil the water, because when you boil water, you lose a certain percentage of the water. Water is truly scarce right now. People are living on just a few liters of water a day.

Water for Kenya is a project to provide equipment and to train local Kenyan workers for the drilling of water wells that will provide clean drinking water to the people of Kenya. The first team of well drillers is working out of the City of Kakamega (Western Province). The second team of drillers is working out of the City of Kitale (Rift Valley Province). In Kenya, these two groups are each autonomous, but work in cooperation with each other. Each area where this work is being done is supervised by a Board of Kenyan men and women. The drilling is performed by teams of dedicated National Kenyans with the support of concerned friends overseas.

The purpose of this web site is to raise funds for the provision of facilities and equipment for the drilling of water wells and of funds to support small ministries associated there with. No money goes for administrative costs; it all goes to the provision of equipment for the drilling of water wells and facilities for the secure storage of both the equipment and supplies required ... or if so designated for one of the associated ministries it goes directly for that ministry.

Our affiliated organization THE WATER PROJECT raises funds to pay for many of the wells drilled. They can be found at "thewaterproject.org".

The facilities and equipment being purchased by WaterForKenya will be used by these teams to drill water wells for:

Schools
Medical Centers
Orphanages
Churches,
Villages, and
Market Places

Our LORD JESUS CHRIST is served through the meeting of basic needs of many through this work. "The King will reply ... whatever you have done for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me" (Matthew 26:40 NIV).  Thorugh our services, water made available through this project is available to all.

CHRIST will be shared with the benefitting community as new wells are provided.

Here I am LORD ... send me!

Never in our wildest imaginations did either my wife or I plan on serving the LORD in a mission capacity in Africa ... yet in our maturity we find it to be invigorating, challenging, and rewarding beyond anything we had expected. Being overseas in the mission field only three to three weeks a year ... how can that make a difference? One can only imagine. My wife's and my (I am David) lives have changed and so have those we have touched. We come in the name and service of the LORD JESUS CHRIST.

In this area men typically work 10 hours a day for 45 cents ... and groceries and gas costs as much as they do in the US. Needless to say, these people must grow most of their own food.
David's primary purpose is to establish Kenyan owned not-for-profit Project Teams of Kenyan Nationals and train and equip them to be able to drill water wells for communitites where water is scarce and clean water is only available (sometimes) in expensive bottles. Eleanor focuses her time on working with Kenyan women and children in multiple areas of their lives. Together we have the privilege of serving our LORD JESUS on a part time basis using regular skills from our lives at home in the US and knowledge gained over the years while we were occupying seats in church listening to sermons.
Most pastors in Kenya have limited theological training. Through years of church attendance most church attendees in the US have developed an extensive knowledge of GOD's word which although they may not feel prepared to share, in fact they are better prepared than most are rural African pastors. What Eleanor and I do doesn't require any formal training; it requires a little money, time, and a willingness to reach out in HIS name. The rewards here on earth are beyond imagination ... while those in Heaven are eternal.
We went because we felt called to go ... we return because we know it is GOD's will that we go there. The people are wonderful and there is plenty for anyone of any skill level whatsoever to do. Even our 14 and 16 year old grandsons who joined us in Kenya in August of 2007 got involved in ministering.
In August 2009 Eleanor and I will returned to Kenya for the sixth time in four years. Our seventh trip is scheduled for March of 2010. We have intentionally not set up a charitable (tax deductible 501(c)3) organization here in the US for this work. In essence, this is our exit strategy. Once the programs in Kenya have been smoothly operating for a number of years, and are self-sustaining, our participation will be reduced to an advisory and oversight capacity and additional support from us should not be required. That being the case, we have subordinated all activites under this program under the pastors and boards of two California mission oriented churches with whom we have been associated for a number of years, and through The Water Project which is a 501(c)3. All charitable donations to this project are made through one or the other of theses organizations. Contributed money is held in their accounts until it is needed overseas. In this way we monitor expenditure of money and are able to see if to put to use immediately after it is sent to Kenya. Contact information regarding these two churches and The Water Project is available under the tab "DONATIONS" of this website. Please feel free to check with them regarding our integrity and accountability. Even when other churches send money to the project, we pass it through the books of one or the other of these organizations. In this way we know when money is sent, how much is sent, and how it is being used.
